Hầu hết các sinh viên tại Anh bắt đầu chuẩn bị cho các kỳ thi cấp độ A khi họ đang ở độ tuổi từ mười sáu đến mười bảy và các khóa học thường kéo dài trong hai năm, mặc dù một số trường cao đẳng dân lập và một số trường cao đẳng cung khóa học trình độ A.
