1. Look at the pictures below. In pairs, discuss the differences between them.

 2. Read the following sentences about table manners in Britain. Work in pairs. Write T ( true) or F (false).

Đọc những câu dưới đây về cách dùng bữa ở Anh. Làm việc theo cặp. Điền T (đúng) hoặc F (sai).

1. The knife is held in the left hand and the fork is held in the right hand.                 Dao được cầm bên tay trái và dĩa được cầm ở bên tay phải.	F

In the UK, we eat around the dining table. We follow lots of table manners. Fristly, we use cutlery - you know, knives, forks and spoons - to eat most of the food. We hold the fork in the left hand and the knife in the right. You should hold the handle of the knife in yt^ur palm and your fork in the other hand with the prongs pointing downwards. There is also a spoon and a fork for dessert. When you finish eating, you should place your knife and fork with the prongs upwards on your plate. Secondly, you should never use your own cutlery to take more food from the serving dish - use the serving spoon. Now if there's bread on the table, you can use your hands to take a piece. Then break off a small piece of bread and butter it. Thirdly, if you are a guest, you have to wait until the host or hostess starts eating and you should ask another person to pass the food. Next, never chew with your mouth open and don't talk with food in your mouth...

4. Work in pairs. Discuss if you follow these table manners in your family. Are there other table manners you follow?

Làm việc theo cặp. Thảo luận xem gia đình em còn theo những cách dùng bữa này không. Có những cách dùng bữa nào khác mà em đang theo không?

1. We sit around a tray on a mat to have meals. Chúng ta ngồi quanh mâm cơm trên chiếu để dùng bữa.

2. We use rice bowls and chopsticks. Chúng ta dùng bát và đũa.

3. When chewing food, we shouldn’t talk. Khi đang nhai thức ăn, chúng ta không nên nói chuyện.

4. The host/hostess invites everybody to start eating. Chủ nhà mời mọi người dùng bữa.

5. The host/hostess offers to serve the food for the guests. Chủ nhà gắp thức ăn cho khách.

6. When w e have finished eating, we place our chopsticks on top of our rice bowls. Khi đã ăn xong, chúng ta đặt đũa trên miệng bát.

5. There is a British exchange student in your class. You invite her to dinner at your home. Play the following roles.

(Có một bạn học sinh người anh trong lớp bạn. Bạn mời cô ấy về ăn tối ở nhà bạn. Đóng các vai sau.)

• You are Minh. You invite your British friend to come for dinner. She asks a lot of questions about Vietnamese table manners. (Bạn là Minh. Bạn mời một bạn người Anh đến nhà ăn tối. Cô ấy hỏi rất nhiều câu hỏi về cách dùng bữa của người Việt Nam.)
• You are Jessica from Britain. You want to learn about Vietnamese table manners so you can feel comfortable at dinner. You compare these with Bitish table manners. (Bạn là Jessica đến từ Anh. Bạn muốn tìm hiểu về cách dùng bữa ở VN để có thể thấy thoải mái trong bữa tối. Bạn so sánh những cách dùng bữa đó với cách dùng bữa của người Anh.)

Minh: Hey Jessica! My family would like to invite you to dinner.

Jessica: Oh, that's nice but... I don't know anything about Vietnamese table manners.

Minh: Well, what do you want to know?

Jessica: Well, do you eat around the dinner table like in Britain?

Minh: No, actually we sit on a mat with the food in the middle.

Jessica: You're kidding!

Minh: No, it's true. We usually sit around a tray on a mat to have meals.

Jessica: And how do you serve meals? Do you use fork and knife?

Minh: No, we use rice bowl and chopsticks.

Jessica: Do you start meals before the host invites?

Minh: No, we only eat after the invitations of the host.

Jessica: It sounds good. How do you give signal to the other that you don't want to eat anymore?

Minh: We place our chopsticks on top of the rice bowl.

Jessica: Oh, it's interesting. Thanks for your tips on table manners.

Minh: Jessica ơi. Gia đình tớ muốn mời bạn đến ăn tối.

Jessica: Ồ, tuyệt quá nhưng mà... Tớ chưa biết gì về các quy định trên bàn ăn của người Việt.

Minh: À, thế bạn muốn biết gì nào?

Jessica: À, các bạn có ngồi xung quanh bàn ăn như ở Anh không ?

Minh: Không, thực ra chúng tớ ngồi trên chiếu, có đồ ăn ở chính giữa.

Jessica: Bạn đùa đó à?

Minh: Không, thật đó. Chúng tớ ngồi trên một chiếc chiếu, xung quanh một chiếc mâm để ăn.
